Tent Camping

Lake Metroparks offers individual and group tent camping opportunities by permit only. Tent camping season is May 7 through November 30 with reservations beginning May 6 at 8:00 am. Tent campsites for Lake County residents are $15 per night. Out of County customer rate is $25 per night. Call the Registration Department at 440-358-7275 to make a reservation or scroll down to make a reservation online. Click here for more information. 

There is a limit of three outstanding permits at one time with a three night limit on each reservation for each household.

Tent Camping Baker Road

It is designed to be a paddle-in site accessible via the Grand River four miles downstream from Hidden Valley Park in Madison. It is possible to walk 1/2 mile to the campsite from the parking lot but the walk back out is all uphill. This is an extremely remote site and restroom facilities are NOT available.

Tent Camping Girdled Road Reservation South

This creekside site is located along the Buckeye Trail and Big Creek surrounded by more than 900 acres of the Girdled Road Reservation in Concord Township. This is a perfect site for people training for long distance backpacking trips. Reserved parking provided on Concord-Hambden Road (S.R.608) approximately 1/3 mile from the campsite. This is a true backcountry site and restroom facilities are NOT available.

Tent Camping Hell Hollow

Tent Camping Hell Hollow

This easy-access campsite is 150’ from the parking area and 400’ to the pit-style restroom with a nearby flat gravel 0.50-mile loop trail on the ridge above the Paine Creek Valley. This campsite offers the opportunity to explore the 981 acres of Hell Hollow Wilderness Area including Paine Creek, the 262 timber steps to its floodplain and waterfalls. Visitors can also walk within the park’s beech and hemlock forests and view Chagrin Shale cliffs.

This lakeside site is located on the secluded eight-acre Hidden Lake located at 7024 Kniffen Rd in Leroy Township. The site is located 1/3 mile from the parking area next to the lake, making it a perfect location for fishing late into the night and early the next morning. There is a restroom 1/3 mile from the campsite.

Tent Camping Indian Point

This secluded riverside site is located along the Wild and Scenic Grand River. It is designed as a paddle-in campsite with an easy landing site adjacent to the campsite. There is parking and a portable restroom located 2,000-feet up the unimproved foot trail at the park entrance located at 12701 Seeley Road in Leroy Township. This river floodplain campsite and access trail may be seasonally muddy and possibly closed when the Grand River is at 4’ of elevation or rising. Located 0.5-mile downstream from the Vrooman Road bridge and 5.31 miles downstream of the campsite at Baker Road Park, this campsite is an excellent stop as you journey along the Grand River to experience fishing, birding, and floodplain fauna and flora.

Tent Camping Lake Erie Bluffs Site A

This secluded, wooded campsite featuring cool lake breezes is located on the edge of the bluff. You will hear waves lap at the shore below and enjoy a private panoramic view of Lake Erie, complete with a dramatic and beautiful sunset (weather permitting).

Explore a nearly two-mile long stretch of natural freshwater beach, the sand scattered with lake-smoothed stones, driftwood and rare beach plants. As you look west along the shoreline, you may catch a glimpse of the Fairport Harbor lighthouse. Lake Erie Bluffs park falls within an important migratory flyway and features world class birding.

In 2013, the park district's biologist observed 90 bird species in two hours. Nine bald eagles were seen at one time! The campsite is a .25-mile westerly walk off the Shoreline Trail, accessed from the Lane Road parking lot (restroom available at east end of parking lot).

Tent Camping Lakeshore

This campsite sits along a ridge overlooking Lake Erie in North Perry Village. Enjoy quality birding in May, August and September and look for bald eagles year-round. Flush restrooms are about ¼ mile away. Parking for the site is located along a separate drive within the park and is a short walk from the campsite.

Tent Camping Penitentiary Glen Reservation

This cozy campsite is nestled near the rim of the gorge. The site is just a short walk from the nearby designated parking space northwest of Penitentiary Glen Nature Center. The nature center closes each day at 5 pm. Public flush restrooms and a drinking fountain are located near Nature Play less than one mile from the site.

This woodland site is located in the remote limited-access River Road Park in Madison Township. The site is situated high on a bluff above the Grand River and next to a pristine wetland. Parking for the site is located on the park’s service drive and requires a ¼- mile hike. This site is available May 1 until Labor Day. This is an extremely remote site and restroom facilities are NOT available.

Tent Camping Riverview Park

This riverside site is accessible on foot or by canoe along the Grand River. Located at the end of Bailey Rd. in Madison Township, you can park your car 50 yards away from the campsite, or paddle 81/2 miles from Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark. It is a perfect midway point for paddling the 16-mile stretch of the Grand River from Harpersfield to Mason’s Landing Park. This site is only usable when the river level is below four feet. A restroom is available about a ¼ mile hike from the campsite.
